White House: Must Assume More Bombs Are Out There

There's no indication more mail bombs are lurking out there, John Brennan tells Meet the Press today, but the White House has no choice but to "presume that there might be." Continued Obama's counterterror chief: "That’s why we’ve taken exceptionally prudent measures as far as preventing packages coming into the United States from Yemen." The Republican poised to take over the House Homeland Security Committee Tuesday agreed, saying the administration handled the threat "perfectly." "They received actionable intelligence that had to be shared with allies, and they did what had to be done," says Pete King. Elsewhere, as per Politico:

• The GOP is standing by its man in Alaska, with John Cornyn denying reports that it's ditching fading Joe Miller in favor of Lisa Murkowski. "We’re trying to make sure the Democratic candidate doesn’t win."
• With Republicans gloating, Chris Hollen says not so fast: "I believe Democrats will hold on to the House. All these independent voters that pundits said are going to vote two-to-one for Republicans—it’s not happening."
• Michael Steele will take whatever he can get, telling State of the Union that "Anything we do that evening is a great success," even if the GOP fails to take the House.
