The father of accused Norway attacker Anders Behring Breivik says his son should have killed himself instead of taking the lives of 76 innocent people. Jens Breivik, a retired diplomat, has disowned his estranged son, reports the New York Times. "The last thing he should have done, instead of killing so many people, is to kill himself," he told a Norwegian television station. "I'll never ever have any contact with him again."

Norwegian police lowered the death toll in the attacks from 93 to 76, reported Reuters, citing difficulties in obtaining information from the shooting scene. The elder Breivik, who lost custody of his son when he was a child, says, "I view this atrocity with absolute horror. My condolences go out to all those who have suffered because of this. I am in a state of shock and have not recovered." (More Norway terror attack stories.)
