In his closing statement today, a prosecuting attorney said Amanda Knox will "run away abroad" if found innocent of murdering Meredith Kercher, the BBC reports. "We know that if the verdict is overturned, there will be an immediate escape overseas," attorney Ciuliano Mignini told jurors, wrapping up the appeals trial in Perugia, Italy. "As a result, even if this is the second of a three-step legal process in Italy, it is up to you to ensure justice."

Italian media have reported that a private jet paid for by a US television network is waiting to whisk Knox away, the Guardian reports. But Mignini went further, criticizing Knox's "million dollar" publicity campaign and denying that the media had "crucified her." Mignini also said Knox had pinned blame for the killing on "the black guy"—Rudy Guede, who is serving 16 years for Kercher's death. A verdict on the Knox appeal is expected Monday.
