The British Medical Journal this week published a list of some common medical myths so prevalent that even many physicians were convinced they were true.   (Shutter Stock)

Some medical misconceptions are so widespread that even doctors believe them. LiveScience rounds up the seven biggest myths, according to the British Medical Journal:

  1. We only use 10% of our brains
  2. You should drink at least eight glasses of water a day
  3. Fingernails and hair grow after death

  1. Shaved hair grows back faster, coarser, and darker
  2. Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight
  3. Eating turkey makes you drowsy
  4. Mobile phones are dangerous in the hospital
