Paula Deen has made a couple of public apologies and/or explanations (not all of them grammatically correct) for her still-exploding n-word controversy. But she needn't feel alone; she joins a whole slew of other celebrities who had to do the same. Wonderwall rounds up 19 others:

  • Hugh Grant: "I think you know in life pretty much what's a good thing to do and what's a bad thing, and I did a bad thing, and there you have it," he said after he was busted with a prostitute in 1995. "In the end, you have to come clean—it was disloyal, shabby, and goatish."
  • Russell Crowe: "This is possibly the most shameful situation I've ever gotten myself in in my life, and I've done some pretty dumb things in my life. So to actually make a new No. 1 is spectacularly stupid," he said after he was arrested for throwing a phone at a concierge. "I'm extremely sorry for this whole incident and I regret everything that took place."

  • David Letterman: "I'm terribly sorry," he said after admitting he had affairs with female staffers. "[My wife] has been horribly hurt by my behavior, and when something happens like that, if you hurt a person and it's your responsibility, you try to fix it."
  • Tom Cruise: "It's not what I had intended, in looking at myself, I thought, 'That came across as arrogant,'" Tom Cruise explained to Matt Lauer three years after he ranted about psychiatry on Today. "That's one of those things you go, 'OK, I could have absolutely handled that better.'"
  • Sharon Stone: "Yes, I misspoke," she said in 2008 after suggesting the devastating earthquake in China was caused by "karma." "I could not be more regretful of that mistake. It was unintentional. I apologize. Those words were never meant to be hurtful to anyone. They were an accident of my distraction and a product of news sensationalism."
