A horrific twist in the already horrific case of bags of body parts dumped on a Michigan highway: Police now believe the person who murdered and dismembered 32-year-old Ramsay Scrivo was the victim's own mother, the Detroit Free Press reports. Donna Kay Scrivo, who had been staying with her son while work was being done on her home and who reported him missing early last week, is now in police custody pending arraignment.
Surveillance video helped police identify the 59-year-old mother as a suspect after witnesses reported seeing a middle-aged white woman throwing garbage bags from an SUV. Four bags of body parts were recovered, along with one bag of clothing and other items, but police are still seeking a limb. A police spokesman says police have had contact with the pair in the past, sometimes involving family trouble. Neighbors had nothing but good things to say about the victim. "He would sit outside, very friendly," a neighbor tells WDIV. "Well respected, everyone talked to him." (More Detroit stories.)
