Neighbors complain, and Gareth Davies' speakers won't go on and on anymore

Worst neighbor ever? A UK man allegedly blasted Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" constantly, as well as similarly irksome songs including James Brown's "Sex Machine," Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild," Apache Indian's "Boom Shack-A-Lak," and the Toy Story theme, and now he's had $5,000 worth of audio equipment confiscated. Neighbors in Medway complained about Gareth Davies' music habits, and the Medway Council found that he had violated noise abatement rules six times, UPI reports. His TV, laptop, PlayStation 3, and of course his iPod and speakers were all seized, but he can apply to get them back in 28 days.

"It felt like it was a witch hunt. There's all sorts of things that make sounds—this is ridiculous," Davies, 47, complains to the Daily Mail. But a council member says, "People have the right to lead a peaceful existence without it being ruined by loud music. Anyone who blasts out music or creates other noise nuisance should let this be a warning to them." The council also seized many of Davies' DVDs and CDs, the BBC reports—and it may even prosecute Davies under the Environmental Protection Act, which could mean he'd see his equipment destroyed. (In Italy this month, a man was jailed for six months over loud sex.)
