When Nikki Haley resigned as UN ambassador last fall, President Trump said she would "make a lot of money" in the private sector. She's certainly trying: Haley's asking price for a speech is $200,000 and the use of a private jet, CNBC reports, citing seven sources. The price goes up for speeches in other countries. A financial disclosure report based on 2017 figures showed Haley, who earlier had been governor of South Carolina, was more than $1 million in debt; at that rate, a few speaking engagements could put her in the black. In addition, Haley is writing a second book, per the Post and Courier. Details weren't available, but her first memoir, Can't Is Not an Option, brought a $500,000 advance. She made $106,000 per year as governor and $180,000 as ambassador.

Those speech fees put Haley near the neighborhood occupied by former presidents and first ladies. But she might pay a price, as well: The amounts she makes, plus the content of and audience for her speeches, could haunt Haley if she runs for president, Aaron Blake writes in the Washington Post. Hillary Clinton was criticized during her 2016 presidential campaign for all three, and Joe Biden recently had to answer for a $200,000 speech praising Fred Upton, a Republican lawmaker from Michigan. (Haley recently made a prestigious list.)
