Police in Nashville say a 24-year-old musician was shot to death outside his house when he refused to turn over the keys to his car. What makes the story even worse is that police arrested five suspects ages 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16, reports BuzzFeed. Three of the five are girls, and prosecutors are expected to try them all as adults, reports the Tennessean. Police say the juveniles approached victim Kyle Yorlets outside his house and stole his wallet, then shot him when he wouldn't give up the keys to his vehicle. Yorlets, who was the lead singer in a local rock group called Carverton, made it back inside his house but died later at the hospital, say police in a statement.

"We are heartbroken," says the band in a statement of its own. The juveniles were allegedly in a stolen pickup when they approached Yorlets, apparently looking for a new stolen vehicle to use. “None of the five individuals are a stranger to the system or this police department," says a police spokesperson. Officers tracked the minors to a local Walmart after finding the abandoned pickup. They also recovered a stolen 9mm gun believed to have been used in the killing. (In Texas, a 14-year-old faces murder charges in an incident that began with the egging of vehicles.)
