The gunman who killed himself with an AK-47 at the University of Texas today has been identified as a 19-year-old sophomore at the school. Colton Tooley was a smart kid who "showed no signs at all, whatsover," a family spokesman tells the Austin American-Statesman. “He wouldn’t or couldn’t hurt a fly. If he was depressed you would never know it because he would never express his emotions."
The math major, clad in black clothes and a ski mask, shot up the campus today before being chased by police into the university's main library, reports the Dallas Morning News. No one else was injured, and authorities say Tooley acted alone. The Austin police chief credited fellow students for their quick response to the attack, though it remains unclear what set Tooley off. "We don't have any motives at this time," said the campus police chief. (More campus shooting stories.)
