Wife Meets With Jailed Chinese Nobel Winner

The wife of Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo was allowed to visit him in prison Sunday and talk to him about the honor. Liu Xia, who disappeared yesterday after Friday’s prize announcement, tweeted that her husband learned of the prize yesterday and that he told her during their meeting he was dedicating it to victims of the crackdown on pro-democracy protesters at Tianenmen Square in 1989.

Xia also said she was placed under house arrest Friday and could no longer make or receive cell phone calls, the AP reports. The entrance to her apartment is being guarded and reporters ordered out, as legal rights organization Freedom Now works for her release. Meanwhile, authorities continue to increase pressure on Liu’s supporters and other activists, as other detainments and harassments are reported.
