Eric Cantor: We'll Repeal Health Care 'Right Away'

Eric Cantor, who will most likely be the new House majority leader, says he intends to “put a repeal bill on the floor right away” to roll back the health care bill “because that’s what the American people want.” In an interview with Katie Couric on CBS, Cantor called the bill an “abomination” that “is going to bankrupt this country.”

Couric pointed out that exit polls showed only 48% wanted to repeal the law, compared to 47% who wanted to leave it as is or expand it. “This is hardly a mandate” for repeal, she said. Cantor countered that 80% of Republicans want repeal, but didn’t specifically address the question. He also dodged questions about what spending Republicans would cut to hit its promised $100 billion reduction in discretionary spending, instead speaking vaguely about fiscal discipline.
