Jon Stewart took on WikiLeaks last night, mocking the gossipy nature of the latest leaks (Nicolas Sarkozy is “an emperor with no clothes”? Kim Jong Il is “a flabby old chap”?): “Rowr! Who put Perez Hilton in charge of our diplomatic corps?” he wondered. But the document dump did include some serious information too, like the fact that Saudi Arabia is one of the chief financiers of al-Qaeda and other similar groups. “Wow, that’s confusing,” Stewart said. “So one of our main allies in the war on terror is also one of the main funders of our war on terror’s enemy.”
“You know, there’s an old saying about the Middle East: The enemy of my enemy is also, most likely at some point, my enemy,” he continued. “So, if we give them money for oil, that allows them to buy weapons from us, with a little left over to fund terrorist groups that we must then send our military over to fight, which costs a lot of money in fuel, which we buy from them. It’s like we’re the commissionless middle men in a war we’re waging on ourselves.” Watch the entire rant in the gallery, or click here for more Stewart.
