Crime | Julian Assange Julian Assange Expects US Spying Charges WikiLeaks founder's attorney is preparing for indictment By Evann Gastaldo Posted Dec 10, 2010 11:57 AM CST Copied This is a Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 file photo of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as he speaks in front of NGO's delegates at the European headquarters of the United Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland. (AP Photo/Salvatore Di Nolfi, Keystone, File) Julian Assange’s lawyer expects the US to indict the WikiLeaks founder soon on espionage charges, she tells ABC News. “Our position of course is that we don't believe it applies to Mr. Assange and that in any event he's entitled to First Amendment protection as publisher of WikiLeaks,” she says. “Any prosecution under the Espionage Act would in my view be unconstitutional and puts at risk all media organizations in the US.” The Justice Department did not comment, but Attorney General Eric Holder did authorize a criminal investigation into Assange earlier this week.
