The Army has begun "adverse administrative action" against nine officers for "administrative and leadership failures relating to the career of Maj. Nidal Hasan," the alleged Fort Hood shooter, it announced yesterday in a statement. "Although no single event directly led to the tragedy at Fort Hood, certain officers clearly failed to meet the high standards expected of their profession," the statement said.
Neither the officers nor their alleged mistakes were identified by name. But a report released last month entitled "The Ticking Time Bomb: Fort Hood Massacre Could Have Been Prevented," concluded that Hasan had displayed suspicious behaviors that should have tipped off his superiors, ABC News recalls. The report criticized commanders for ignoring the warning signs and promoting Hasan through the ranks anyway. (More Nidal Malik Hasan stories.)
