Many already know not to plan anything for May 22; but for those who aren’t aware of the upcoming apocalypse, believers are spreading the news. Subscribers to Harold Camping’s school of thought have already erected some 1,000 billboards around the nation. “Seven billion people are facing their death! What else could I do?” says a New Jersey electrical engineer who helped get local billboards in place. The message, he says, is positive: “When you have this information, with my love for my fellow man, I wanted to tell people.”
Supporters of Camping’s Family Radio have donated between $100 and $500 each for such signage, says a rep, who wouldn’t reveal the total costs of the campaign. Meanwhile, believers aren’t all certain of their own salvation, reports Religion News Service via the Huffington Post. “If I find myself here May 22, then I'll be unsaved, because all the believers will be taken,” says one. “It is scary. I don't know if my children are saved.” Click for another take. (More Family Radio stories.)
