NATO missile strikes hit Tripoli today, and witnesses say some of them appeared to target Moammar Gadhafi's compound. Libyan officials, who claim four children were wounded in the strikes, showed journalists a destroyed government building and a damaged hospital. "The direction of at least one blast suggests Gadhafi's compound has been targeted," says one witness. The Libyan leader has not appeared publicly since a NATO airstrike killed his youngest son and three of his grandchildren on April 30.
The fight between the rebels and Gadhafi loyalists appears to be at a stalemate, Reuters reports. Yesterday, rebels say NATO bombed government arms depots in a region near the Tunisia border, and hit cities east of Misrata, where hundreds have been killed as the struggle for the city continues. An opposition newspaper claims the rebels are leading an uprising in the Tripoli suburbs, but that report could not be independently verified. (More NATO stories.)
