Man Arrested at Arlington Tied to Pentagon Shootings

And the plot thickens: Ballistic evidence indicates that the man arrested at Arlington National Cemetery last week may also be the man who fired shots at the Pentagon, the National Museum of the Marine Corps and a Marine recruiting office in October, authorities said today. The suspect, Yonathan Melaku, is a 22-year-old Marine reservist and a naturalized US citizen from Ethiopia, NPR reports.

Melaku hasn’t been charged in last week’s incident, but is in custody on unrelated grand larceny charges—he allegedly broke into a number of cars, the AP reports. No one was injured in any of the incidents Melaku is suspected of being involved in. Last week he was found carrying a backpack he said was full of explosives, but which turned out to be inert, and October’s shootings were all carried out at night, while the buildings were empty.
