The case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn has fallen apart so spectacularly that charges will be dropped within two weeks, a top investigator on the case tells the New York Post. It is "a certainty" that prosecutors will agree to ditch the charges on DSK's next court date, two weeks away, or sooner. "Her credibility is so bad now, we know we cannot sustain a case with her," the source says of the hotel maid accusing Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault.
The source adds that now the truth may never come out: "Did [Strauss-Kahn] use force? Was there actually a crime? I don't think we'll ever know." Meanwhile, defense sources continued to stick to the story that the sex was consensual but that "in the past, guests have left" money for the maid—and that she became upset when Strauss-Kahn didn't do the same. Prosecution sources add that the maid continued to "entertain" male visitors while being held at a DA safehouse.
