Shhh, nobody tell Moody's. Today's debt ceiling talks at the White House may have been the testiest yet. As Eric Cantor tells it, the president "lost his temper" and "abruptly" ended the meeting by walking out of the room, reports Politico. But a Democrat offered a different view to the Los Angeles Times: “Left abruptly is perfectly fair," said the official. "But the meeting was over—in no sense did he walk out on it." Cantor apparently set the president off by saying the two sides were so far apart that they should consider a short-term increase in the debt ceiling rather than the long-term deal to reduce the deficit that Obama wants.
“The president told me, "Eric, don’t call my bluff. I’m going to take this to the American people,’” Cantor said. Asked whether today's talks yielded any progress, Democratic minority whip Steny Hoyer said, "No." Meanwhile, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and other Democrats seemed receptive to Mitch McConnell's "backup plan," notes the Washington Post.
