Michele Bachmann criticized President Obama's jobs plan tonight as filled with "failed gimmicks" and "yet one more political speech where he doubled down on more of the same policies that are killing the United States economy," reports Fox News. "Mr. President, what among your proposals was new," she asked. "What hasn't been tried and failed before?" Elsewhere, both Rick Perry (who said Obama is "guided by his mistaken belief that we can spend our way to prosperity") and Mitt Romney (who released an ad calling Obama's plan "960 days late") issued similar criticisms.
If Bachmann were hoping for a huge national spotlight, however, she didn't get it. TV coverage of her statement was scant this time around. And earlier in the day, some fellow House Republicans criticized her for "showboating" in scheduling the presser in the first place, reports the Hill. "She’s panicking, she’s in ‘try-to-catch-up’ mode," said one anonymous lawmaker. Meanwhile, Eric Cantor and John Boehner were at least making bipartisan noises after Obama's speech.
