For the seventh time this season, an unranked spoiler tripped up a top-ranked team, dashing Superdome dreams and churning up the BCS poll. This time it was Pitt who pounced on West Virginia's Achilles heel: turnovers. The second-ranked Mountaineers gave up three fumbles and couldn't produce in their 13-9 defeat by a 28-point underdog, the Post-Gazette reports.
"The whole thing's a nightmare," lamented WVU coach Rich Rodriguez. His Heisman-hopeful quarterback Patrick White missed half the game with a dislocated thumb, and even White's return in the final quarter couldn't make up for two missed field goals and a paltry 104 rushing yards. For the Panthers, on the other hand, the game was "just like the movies." (More NCAA football stories.)
