Fired Director Sues Spider-Man Show Bosses

More drama behind the curtains for Broadway’s Spider-Man: Former director Julie Taymor is suing the show’s producers over what she says is a lack of compensation for her creative work. “The producers' actions have left her no choice but to resort to legal recourse to protect her rights,” her attorney says. Taymor was fired following much-publicized trouble onstage and off, but she's the only director eligible for a Tony for the show.

The costliest show on Broadway needs to pull in $1.2 million per week to stay afloat, producers say—and despite injuries and bad reviews, it has had little trouble doing so, the AP reports. But “producers have failed to compensate Ms. Taymor for their continued use of her work to date, despite the fact that the show has consistently played to capacity or near-capacity houses,” her attorney says.
