Penn State to Donate $1.5M to Sex Abuse Charites

Even as Penn State continues to grapple with its terrible sexual abuse scandal, the university announced yesterday that the school would donate $1.5 million to two groups that aid victims of sexual assault—and that the money would come out of the school's athletics programs' kitty, reports the LA Times. The school will contribute the money from its share of this year's Big Ten bowl revenues to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. “As a university and as people within a caring community we believe it is essential to take a deeper look at the core issue of child sexual abuse and to openly acknowledge the scope of the problem,” said Penn State's new president, Rodney Erickson.
