Two teenaged girls have recovered and three others are getting better after a mystery illness broke out in small-town New York state, WHEC-TV reports. A Buffalo doctor revealed the good news this week, saying her mix of medication, psychological help, and behavior modification helped girls suffering from strange verbal and facial tics. But some parents attribute the turnaround to a child neurologist who prescribed antibiotics.
Either way, the EPA is considering a possible environmental cause (other than Facebook) and plans remove barrels from the location of a 1970s train derailment in the town. Environmental activist Erin Brockovich is still searching for contaminants at LeRoy Junior-Senior High School, where the outbreak occurred, but no luck yet. "While we certainly do not want to cause a panic in the community, we do want to be thorough and get to the bottom of what is going on in LeRoy," Brockovich said in a statement.
