Politics | Rick Santorum 2012 Rick Santorum: Obama Wrong to Apologize for Korans Says Afghans are the ones who need to apologize By Polly Davis Doig Posted Feb 26, 2012 11:25 AM CST Copied Rick Santorum says President Obama shouldn't have apologized for US troops who burned Korans in Afghanistan. (AP Photo/John Amis) Afghanistan may still be seething over US troops who burned Korans last week, but Rick Santorum is joining those conservatives taking aim at President Obama's efforts to diffuse the situation. Speaking today on Meet the Press, Santorum slapped at the president's apology over the incident, saying he shouldn't have apologized "for something that was clearly inadvertent. There was no deliberate act. This is something that occurred that shouldn't have occurred, but it was an accident." Au contraire, it is the Afghan people and Hamid Karzai who need to apologize for "overreacting," Santorum said. "The response ... of attacking and killing our men and women in uniform, and overreacting to this mistake ... That is the real crime, not what our soldiers did," Santorum said, according to Politico.
