A bomb exploded in front of a school in southern Italy today, killing a teenage girl and injuring at least six others, reports Reuters. Few details have been released yet, but the bomb appears to have placed inside a garbage can near the entrance of the school and exploded at 7:45am, as students were still coming to class. "Given the effect of the explosion, it appears that this was something quite powerful," said an official.

No one has taken responsibility for the attack, but the school where the bomb exploded, the Francesca Morvillo Falcone vocational school, is named after the wife of a famous anti-Mafia judge. She and her husband were killed in a bomb attack 20 years ago, almost to the day. Other speculation has linked the attack to a recent wave of anti-austerity bombings around Italy, notes AP.
