Harry Reid: We Don't Have Time for Gun Control

Don't expect Congress to tackle gun control in the wake of the Aurora shooting; Harry Reid told reporters today that the Senate's schedule was simply too packed to take on the issue, according to the AP. Reid said he agreed with President Obama's remarks last night, but just couldn’t squeeze such in a debate. Asked if the Senate might tackle guns next year, Reid replied, "Nice try."

What is the Senate so busy doing? Well, not keeping the government running. The current federal budget expires on Sept. 30, but congressional leaders are considering putting off work on a new one until next year. John Boehner aides say he's hoping to pass a six-month stopgap, while Reid favors passing something during the lame-duck session. You would almost think Congress had given up on getting anything done this year.
