Toronto finally got a shootout win today, prevailing 4-3 against Tampa Bay. The NHL's worst road team was denied twice by new goalie Scott Clemmensen, who hadn't had a win since February of last year. Jason Blake had a goal and two assists in the win, which improved Toronto's New Year's home record to 16-4-2.
Also in the NHL, Ottawa was forced to relive last Saturday's 8-6 drubbing by red-hot Washington; the Capitals took the rematch 6-3, after falling behind 2-0 early on. Martin Gerber was pulled after allowing three goals on just eight shots, but replacement Ray Emery fared little better. Five different Capitals had goals in the win.
