Murder Case Dropped Against Tennis Umpire

The strange case of a US Open umpire charged with murdering her 80-year-old husband has been dismissed, reports the Los Angeles Times. Prosecutors informed the judge that they were "unable to proceed" with the case against Lois Goodman, 70, but did not elaborate. The LAT says it might be because there's not enough evidence to show that Goodman's husband died from a beating instead of a fall, as Goodman maintains. He was just hours away from cremation when a coroner's investigator spotted "blunt force trauma" on his head and hands, which triggered a homicide investigation.
