Things are again heating up in volatile Kashmir, where Indian officials charge that Pakistani army members slaughtered and mutilated two Indian soldiers, beheading one of them and taking the severed head with them. India says Pakistani army members fired over the Line of Control that divides the contested territory yesterday, killing the two soldiers in a "barbaric and inhuman mutilation." Pakistan dismisses the accusation as "baseless," and says it would welcome a UN inquiry, reports the BBC.

Pakistan is blasting India as trying to divert attention from an incident two days earlier in which Pakistan claims India crossed over the LoC and killed a Pakistani soldier. India is vowing a "proportionate" response. (More India stories.)
