The good news is that Tennessee state Sen. Stacey Campfield takes the time to respond to his critics' emails. The bad news is that he replies thusly:
- “You seem to have some serious, deep anger issues. Have you ever thought about therapy? I hear they are doing some wonderful things with medications these days. Yours in service ..."
Campfield—he is author of the state's "don't say gay" bill and a follow-up that would require teachers to out gay students, and he holds some unconventional ideas about welfare benefits and the origin of AIDS—fired off that identical response to at least three critics, reports the Tennessean. After TMZ, Reddit, and others published the reply, it went viral. One woman who got it says she is "utterly shocked," but Campfield is unapologetic: "I'm not their pinata," he says of critics.
