The White House has released detailed breakdowns of how the across-the-board spending cuts called the sequester will affect individual states, reports the Washington Post, which has collected the state-by-state reports here. The reports on all 50 states and the District of Columbia detail the sequester's effects on things like military readiness, child care, vaccines for children, and nutrition assistance for seniors.
The automatic cuts set to begin on Friday will threaten "hundreds of thousands of middle class jobs," along with "vital services for children, seniors, people with mental illness, and our men and women in uniform," an introduction to the state-by-state breakdowns said. As Democrats and Republicans pointed the finger at each other on talk shows yesterday, President Obama vowed to keep fighting for a deal up until Friday's deadline. (More sequester stories.)
