Britney Spears won't regain the right to see her kids anytime soon, a judge ruled late today after she missed a custody hearing, People reports. Ex-husband Kevin Federline's lawyer refused to characterize the ruling against restoring visitation as a victory; he said K-Fed hopes "he will be able to parent the children at some point in the future with participation from the mother."

The troubled pop princess did go to the courthouse for the afternoon session of the daylong hearing but left before venturing inside. "I'm scared," she said as paparazzi thronged her vehicle. "I want to get in the car." She rejected police officers' appeals to climb out and eventually drove off. Spears lost her visitation rights after being hospitalized following a standoff with police and paramedics, which today's hearing addressed. (More Britney Spears stories.)
