World | Richard III Aftermath of Richard III Discovery: Hate Mail Plus: Another historical figure discovered under parking lot By Matt Cantor Posted Mar 13, 2013 8:30 AM CDT Copied Philippa Langley looks at the facial reconstruction of Richard III, unveiled to the media at the Society of Antiquaries, London, Tuesday Feb. 5, 2013. (AP Photo/PA, Gareth Fuller) No one could accuse the Brits of a lack of passion for their history. As the feud continues over where to bury Richard III, the head of the York Minster church is getting hate mail, AFP reports. Nine of Richard's descendants have called for his reburial at York, where he had royal ties. But the UK has left the matter in the University of Leicester's hands; the school says he'll be placed in Leicester Cathedral. Not all are pleased with the decision, and some of the letters sent to the Dean of York "are so extreme that she has referred the correspondence to the police," says a local lawmaker. "I would say to everybody—'calm down. Let's all respect the memory of a former king of our country.'" Oddly, Richard III isn't the only recent historical figure to surface in a UK parking lot: Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a medieval noble or knight under an Edinburgh lot, along with traces of a 13th-century monastery, the BBC reports. "This find has the potential to be one of the most significant and exciting archaeological discoveries in the city for many years," says an official.
