Senseless tragedy in Manhattan, where a Long Island high school senior celebrating his 18th birthday tried to cross subway tracks on a dare and was killed by an oncoming train. Liam Armstrong was with two friends last night when they got on the wrong train. They realized their mistake, disembarked, and then—instead of going above ground to safely cross to the southbound platform—they dared each other to run across the tracks.
One friend made it, and the other was still waiting to cross when Armstrong was hit. His leg was severed, and he died of severe head trauma. Police sources tell the New York Post a liter of rum was found in his backpack, though it's unclear whether he had drank any. His Twitter account tagline: "yolo," short for "you only live once."
