Well, we're short a bear. But we're going to go with "Oh my" anyway, after a tiger, two mountain lions, and a variety of other wild cats were seized from a patch of private farmland in rural northeast Kansas. The animals were living in inadequate chain-link enclosures and weren't properly fed or watered, authorities said as they announced the raid yesterday. In addition to the tiger and lions, authorities found three bobcats; two lynx;a type of African cat called a serval; and two skunks on the property.
A local sheriff said the owner became combative during the seizure and authorities found methamphetamine. He was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges, including 10 misdemeanors related to animal care. Witnesses told authorities that the animals' owner previously had better pens but moved the animals to the relative's property about two years ago in what was supposed to be a temporary move. The animals were kept in makeshift chain-link cages held together with hose clamps. "It was dirty. It was gross," the sheriff said. "My dogs would have been out of there the first day you put them in there." (More mountain lion stories.)
