Being John Malkovich now involves being a little more heroic: The actor was apparently taking a smoke break on the street in Toronto, where he's starring in The Giacomo Variations, when he spotted a 77-year-old tourist bleeding at the throat after having fallen and cut himself on scaffolding, reports CBC. Malkovich used his scarf to help stop Jim Walpole's bleeding, aided by a local restaurateur. "They were so helpful, so wonderful," says wife Marilyn Walpole. "The way he was spurting I thought it was the carotid [artery] or the jugular."
Malkovich "took over just like a doctor," Jim Walpole says, adding hilariously: "I asked, 'What's your name?' He said, 'John.' And I didn't ask the last name 'cause I didn't figure I'd remember it anyhow." Malkovich "turned and thanked me," says the restaurateur, then left. "He was just off, didn't want any attention. He's a gentleman and a compassionate person." Jim Walpole says he doesn't think he's seen any of Malkovich's movies, which his bride aims to change. "I'm going to watch all of them that I can," she says. (More John Malkovich stories.)
