Thank God it's summer, because apparently few people in the US are prepared for a rainy day. A new study by Bankrate.com found 76% of 1,000 American adults surveyed don't have six months of expenses stashed away—enough to survive a job loss, medical emergency, or other unexpected financial crunch, reports CNNMoney. Worse, 50% didn't even have enough for three months, and 27% had no savings.
Despite the improving economy, these figures have stayed the same for three years. "People have long been woefully under-saved for emergencies," Bankrate's senior financial analyst tells the Huffington Post. "While they may now realize the importance of emergency savings, they’ve done very little to move the needle."
