Sports / Chicago Blackhawks Blackhawks Thank Vanquished Boston in Ad Chicago team thanks Boston for its hospitality By Kevin Spak, Newser Staff Posted Jun 28, 2013 1:27 PM CDT Copied Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane hoists the Stanley Cup after the Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 in Game 6 of the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Finals Monday, June 24, 2013, in Boston. (AP Photo/Elise Amendola) The Chicago Blackhawks may have crushed the hearts of Boston Bruins fans when they won the Stanley Cup, but they definitely don't want any hard feelings. The team took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe today thanking the city for its hospitality. "As impressed as we were by … the Boston Bruins on the ice, we were deeply touched by what happened off the ice," the ad reads. "Rarely have we experienced the hospitality you afforded us throughout the playoff series." In a subtle nod to the Boston Marathon bombing and resulting solidarity meme, the letter closes by saying, "Like the rest of the world, Chicagoans have been reminded in recent days of Boston's strength. Please know we tip our hat to your city's big heart and gracious spirit." You can see the full ad on Poynter, which points out that it follows the Chicago Tribune's nifty Boston sports solidarity page—and subsequent amusing retraction. (More Chicago Blackhawks stories.)
