Russia yesterday issued a warning to any of its citizens considering travel—not because of a terrorism threat or other danger, but because the citizens could be extradited if they are wanted by the US and travel to a country that has an extradition treaty with the US. "Recently, detentions of Russian citizens in various countries, at the request of American law enforcement, have become more frequent—with the goal of extradition and legal prosecution in the United States," reads the Foreign Ministry bulletin. It specifically cites two Russian citizens who were jailed after being extradited to the US, the BBC reports.

Extradition, already a problematic issue between the US and Russia, has been further exacerbated by the case of NSA leaker Edward Snowden, the New York Times reports. The US has been demanding Russia extradite Snowden, but Russian officials claim the US has often ignored its own extradition requests. And, in yesterday's bulletin, the Foreign Ministry said Russian citizens have been "kidnapped" from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Lithuania, and Spain and forced to undergo "biased" judicial proceedings "based on shaky evidence and clearly tilted toward conviction."
