Police have found and arrested the Nevada 16-year-old they've been hunting since his mother and brother were found dead last week. Police got a tip that Adrian Navarro-Canales was in Las Vegas yesterday, near the Strip. They found the teen alone in a food court there at about 10:30am, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. He was arrested without incident, and faces charges for the murders of Elvira Canales-Gomez, 40, and Cesar Navarro, 9.
Police actually visited the home twice before discovering the bodies, the Review-Journal reveals. They initially suspected something might be up when Canales-Gomez's boyfriend asked for a welfare check after being unable to get her on the phone or at the door. They visited on Sept. 18 and twice the next day, but say they had no justification to enter the locked home. But they finally did so on Friday after the dead woman's niece learned Cesar hadn't been in school since the 17th; police believe Adrian spent two days in the apartment after the stabbings. The niece told police Adrian "has been known to push or punch [his mother] when she confronts him." (More Nevada stories.)
