House Republicans have been called everything from anarchists to political terrorists, but Rep. Alan Grayson may have struck the unkindest blow of all. In an interview with Salon, the controversial liberal from Florida says they're drinking on the job. It's "been a problem all year long," he says. “It’s a fact we all have to live with, and it’s making them violent and abusive towards America.” Though Grayson isn't exactly known for subtlety, he did, however, refuse to name names.
He cited “a number of public reports that you can smell alcohol on their breath as they’re voting gleefully to shut down the government and create chaos." He's presumably referring to an eyebrow-raising tweet on Saturday by Politico reporter Ginger Gibson. "I'm not over exaggerating when I say I can smell the booze wafting from members as they walk off the floor," she wrote. John Boehner's office did not comment on Grayson's allegations. The horror? Eh, a Huffington Post piece notes that imbibing inside the Capitol building is most definitely a bipartisan affair. (More Alan Grayson stories.)
