Peter Higgs—namesake of the Higgs boson—may be a groundbreaking physicist, but he is not a cellphone owner. That's why the winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics didn't even know he'd won ... until a woman on the street told him so. As he was returning home from lunch in Ediburgh, a former neighbor pulled up her car beside him. "She congratulated me on the news and I said 'oh, what news?'" he says, per the BBC. The Nobel Prize Committee says it tried hard to get in touch with Higgs, 84, but had to go ahead with the announcement when it couldn't get a hold of him, reports the Telegraph.
