Three solid quarters not enough for Knicks in 120-109 loss to Lakers

"You could see this coming," said Earl Watson, but no one really expected the 14-straight-loss Sonics to topple the defending NBA champions. The Spurs got 29 points from Manu Ginobili and 27 from Tim Duncan, but Seattle eked out an 88-85 win nevertheless. Rookie Kevin Durant (26 points) didn't hide his delight, reports the Seattle Times.

The Knicks, meanwhile, had a lead in the fourth quarter last night until the Lakers put together a 29-9 run when Isiah Thomas' strategy of using "a lot of prayers and a lot of luck" to combat Kobe Bryant somehow failed. Bryant finished with 24 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds, and the Knicks fell to 14-30 on the 120-109 loss. (More NBA stories.)
