8 More Girls Kidnapped in Nigeria

A day after reports that Boko Haram planned to sell kidnap victims, the extremist group is suspected in the kidnapping of eight more girls in Nigeria, Reuters reports. The girls, ages 12 to 15, were taken from a village near one of the group's northeastern Nigeria bases. "They were many, and all of them carried guns. They came in two vehicles painted in army color. They started shooting in our village," a resident tells Reuters. "The Boko Haram men were entering houses, ordering people out." The girls were hauled away on trucks, says a police insider. Meanwhile, UN human rights head Navi Pillay is calling for the safe return of all the kidnapped girls, noting that slavery is a crime against humanity, CNN reports. (More Nigeria stories.)
