Friday was for stressing, but yesterday was relaxing for the U.S. team in the first round of the Davis Cup. After Andy Roddick and James Blake struggled to win singles matches Friday, twins Bob and Mike Bryan won in straight sets to beat Austria and send the U.S. into April's second round, reports the Associated Press.
"I am glad we finished off the job on the second day," U.S. captain Patrick McEnroe said. The Bryans beat Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 for a 3-0 U.S. lead in Vienna. The U.S. will advance to host France, which beat Romania 3-0 in Sibiu. The top-ranked Bryans had none of the clay-court problems Roddick and Blake had Friday. (More Davis Cup stories.)
