It's not every day a fraternity gets itself kicked out over sorority hazing, but UConn has unceremoniously dumped Sigma Alpha Epsilon on the heels of giving Kappa Kappa Gamma the boot last week—both over hazing allegations by a former member of the sorority who said she was forced to "sizzle like bacon" on the floor, then guzzle booze until she passed out. UConn says the incident took place in an SAE house located off campus.
"Our mission is to provide a first-rate learning environment, and as our actions in response to this event indicate, we take this very seriously," says a UConn spokeswoman. SAE got a five-year ban—a year more than KKG. The severity might have something to do with past infractions; as the AP reports, SAE has been on probation twice and once given a warning in the last decade.
