Casey Kasem's kids are still trying to wrest the ailing 82-year-old away from his wife, Jean, whom they've been battling for months, and their latest plan sounds pretty intense. A legal source tells the New York Daily News that lawyers for Casey Kasem and his daughter, Kerri, who was recently appointed his temporary conservator, are considering having armed guards take Kasem out of Jean's custody in Washington state and to a hospital. The team filed legal paperwork yesterday asking that Jean Kasem be forced to submit to the transfer and surrender her husband's passport, and Kerri Kasem wants the security in case something goes awry.
"I’m very worried that Jean ... might make a break to leave the country," Kerri Kasem says. "They’re a ferry boat ride away from Canada and a few miles from an Indian reservation. If he’s moved again, his life might be in danger. I’m very worried." Jean Kasem's team objected to the proposal from Kerri's team, so a hearing will be held today. The Los Angeles Daily News—which doesn't mention armed guards—says the hearing will determine whether Jean Kasem will be ordered to cooperate with Kerri Kasem when Kerri travels to Washington to make medical decisions on her father's behalf. Kerri Kasem's lawyer also says she should be able to hire lawyers and a private investigator to assist her. (More Casey Kasem stories.)
