Liverpool is now out of both major UK cup competitions and out of contention for the English Premier League title. Barnsley plays in the lesser League Championship, a competitive level one step below the elite Premier League. "It's a fairytale, it's what dreams are made of," Barnsley manager Simon Davey told the Associated Press. Dirk Kuyt had put the Reds ahead, and Liverpool appeared headed for the win before Barmsley tied. Stephen Foster then scored on a header in the 57th minute and goalie Luke Steele, in his first start for the club, kept Barnsley in the game by holding off a furious Liverpool attack.
